We've been here over a week now, and are beginning our second weekend on the farm. We've enjoyed meeting the residents here - they stop the car and roll down the window to introduce themselves, or stop their bikes to hav ea chat. It's been super fun to hear stories from Pamela, too. I love that she's always willing to stop and share stories with us about what it was like in the beginning on The Farm. It's so interesting!
Zoe is in school every morning from 9:30-12:30. It's a solar school with about 8 rooms and a big hallway, 4 teachers and about 25 kids from age three to seventeen. The kids all have circle time in the morning, and then split off in age groups for different activities. Today, Zoe got to make soap, corn bread, and soup! She's been there a week, and has really warmed up to Peter Principal, hiding behind him when some new folks were introduced (as if she is shy - ha!). Here's a pic of Zoe in the bamboo forest outside the school...
It's been great for her to have a regular schedule, which has usually then included a playdate with our neighbor, Rosie. Rosie lives just down the road with her mama and daddy, and grandparents on the weekends. We met Rosie because one day last weekend we took a walk and her kitties followed us home!
We didn't know they were her kitties, we thought they were strays, and they spent the night on our porch. We wanted to make sure they weren't their kitties (they ran out from their house's general vicinity as we walked past), so the next morning we walked back to the house and knocked on the door. Apparently, they were indeed their kitties, and Maggie, Rosie's mom, had been quite upset looking for the kitties for most of the night! Oh, we felt so horrible! But, the good part, is that Zoe has a new BFF in Rosie, who is just a month older than her. They play really nicely together, and Maggie has been SO incredibly generous with taking them over there for play dates every day. I know it's a win-win, but still. It's been great to have some kid-free time in the morning, and again in the afternoon, and Zoe has been wearing herself out with all the play time! It's good all around.
I have been surprised by how much there still has been to do since being here. It's actually just now that I'm feeling settled, and like I have had a good, relaxing, birth-prep-filled day. Today is the first day that I really felt free to do the things I need and want to do to get this baby on its way. Maybe it's the 8 hours of sleep I got last night, which of course meant a pretty good mood this morning. We had a slow, sunny few hours at home in our warm, cozy cabin.
Eventually, Scotty left to go to the Walmart to buy our new camera (Finally!!! We've been without one for almost a year!), and Sherry and I had to leave to go pick up Zoe at school in the freezing, 24 degree weather. Brrrr!
After lunch, Zoe was off to play with Rosie, while Scotty played with the new camera, I listened to my hypnobirthing CD and took a little nap, and Sherry read her book then fell asleep on the couch for a bit. Good to have rested in preparation for our long afternoon walk in the (again) freezing weather! We walked for an hour and a half, tackling two big hills with me walking sideways to get that baby Down, Baby, Down!
We ran into the other couple who are clients of Pamela's, who were apparently also given the same advice. Ha!
Tonight we're making some yummy chili for dinner and staying warm and cozy some more in the cabin. Tomorrow I suspect will be more of the same, unless this baby decides to make its debut sooner rather than later, which would be fine with me.
